The hanger

The hanger prototype hanging on a studio wall

Not just pixels

“The Dubbelkatt Lab” is where projects live that have nothing to do with client work and everything to do with curiosity and my love for creativity. It’s where custom golf head covers gets designed and sewn, where a dubbelkatt bike gets built, and where the same design thinking that goes into a UI component ends up applied to something that can be touched.

The hanger is the latest project to come out of the lab.

If it doesn’t exist, build it

It started simply enough, I needed a small wall hanger for our bathroom. Something to hold jewelry, hats, the odd accessory. Functional but beautiful, minimal without being cold. After a fruitless browse online I realised what I was looking for didn’t exist, at least not in the way I had it in my head.

So I opened Fusion 360.

From sketch to shelf

The design went through several rounds of mock-ups, each one printed and tested for size and fit before moving on. The detail I kept coming back to was the border radius of the faces, smooth and rounded throughout without being obtrusive. The same design language that runs through this very page, considered, not decorative.

The final design is a two-part construction with a screw fitting on top, which opens up the possibility of duo-tone colorways, mixing and matching the two parts for a personalised look.

Keep your eyes peeled

The hangers have been highly requested and are heading to sale very soon. If you want one, or four, keep your eyes peeled here. Until next project!
